What is a fireproof battery cabinet or battery container?

A fireproof battery cabinet - often referred to as battery cabinet, lithium cabinet or li-ion cabinet - is designed specifically for the safe storage and/or charging of lithium-ion batteries. Lithium batteries can go into thermal runaway if damaged, overheated or charged incorrectly. A battery cabinet helps reduce damage and provides additional time for evacuation and incident response.

Is a fire-resistant battery cabinet mandatory?
The obligation depends on risks and requirements of insurance or HSE. For storage of multiple li-ion batteries, a fireproof lithium cabinet is however, is strongly recommended to control thermal runaway.
>May you also charge in a lithium cabinet?
Yes, then choose a charging cabinet with outlets, thermal protection and preferably detection and disconnection.
Is ventilation mandatory?
Due to smoke, gas generation and heat dissipation, controlled ventilation is strongly recommended is strongly recommended during lithium storage and charging.
What do I do with damaged batteries?
Avoid storage in a regular cabinet. Use a battery box or quarantine container.
